Nexus
A Nexus Letter is a medical opinion from a healthcare professional that establishes a link between a veteran's current medical condition(s) and their military service. These letters are typically used when there is not enough evidence in the veteran's service records or when additional medical evidence is requested by the VA to support the veteran's claim for service connection. The Nexus Letter explains how the veteran's condition(s) are related to specific incidents, exposures, or duties during their military service.
Unlike DBQs, Nexus Letters are personalized statements written by healthcare professionals based on their assessment of the veteran's medical history, service records, and current condition(s). These letters can greatly strengthen a veteran's disability claim by providing a medical opinion that supports the relationship between their disabilities and their military service.

DBQ
A DBQ, or Disability Benefits Questionnaire, is a form used by the VA to collect medical information for disability evaluations. It is filled out by a doctor or specialist who examines the veteran and assesses their condition. The form provides a structured way for healthcare providers to document the veteran's medical history, symptoms, and limitations related to their disabilities. There are different DBQ forms for various medical conditions, like joint problems, mental health issues, and hearing loss. The information in the DBQ helps the VA decide if the veteran is eligible for disability benefits and how much compensation they should receive.
